Phonics

You all have the link to the lessons related to the sound sets that your child is learning. Your child also needs to look at the spelling videos as part of their phonics too. These have been shared with you. Start from lesson 1 of these videos and do 1 a day. They are working retrospectively, so your child should be starting to get familiar with the sounds they are being asked to spell with. If you cannot find your link or you have forgotten which sounds your child is learning please send me a message on Dojo.

Reading

Visit the Oxford Owl website to access their free e-library, which has Read Write Inc Phonics books to match where your child is at in phonics, and book banded books to match your child's school reading book level. You all have the login details for our class account to this site, but if you can't remember it please send me a message on Dojo.

You can also use books from your child's own book shelf for reading together, and you can now also join Earl Shilton's digital library. Don't worry if you're not a member of Earl Shilton Library, you can now join online. Just follow the link:

Literacy

Today in Literacy we are thinking about the Cinderella story. You need to begin by watching the video of the story of Cinderella first. Then watch the video lesson. You will be creating your own story maps to help you retell the Cinderella story. I have posted a copy of my story map (which I use in the lesson video) and the written text of the Cinderella story, which matches the story map, to help you with this job. (The text is split into 5 blocks, with each block matching a line on the story map). When you have created your story map start to have a go at using it to retell the story. It is really important that you get this story map safe in your head as we will be using it to help us write the story up next week. Click on the red link below to access the video lesson.

Maths Recap

In last Friday's Maths the children were adding on by making 10. The last question on their sheet involved partitioning numbers. Although this process of solving the problems may have seem long winded, the idea behind the process is for the children to begin to understand that sometimes they may find it easier to add numbers together by making 10 first. It is is a tricky concept for the children to grasp, but it is a skill that they may find useful as they develop their knowledge and understanding of Maths. This is something that we will revisit again throughout the year. However, in case you want to revisit this before moving on, I have attached a PowerPoint that goes through step by step, how to solve problems like last Friday's question 3. Remember this method only works if the final number you are making is above 11.

Maths

Today in Maths we are starting to think about subtraction. We will be thinking about taking away numbers from other numbers. Your child will benefit from having their ten frames and / or some resources for counting for today's lesson.

5 Minute Mindfulness Meditation

Take a few moments today for this Mindfulness Meditation activity. We always start every afternoon with some meditation just to help us, relax, focus and turn off from the business of the day for a few minutes. Click on the red link below to access the meditation.

History

In today's History lesson we are going to be thinking about family trees. We will look in particular at Queen Victoria's family tree before you have a go at creating your own family tree as our History activity. You can use one of the templates below to help you with your family tree, or you can draw your own. I have also included a download of the PowerPoint presentation used in the video lesson so you can look back on the family trees shown or any other part of the PowerPoint. Click on the red link below to access the video lesson.
