Friday

Here are the lessons for today's learning. Scroll down the page to find the lesson that you are looking for. The lessons are laid out in the order that appear on the 'Example of What A Day of Remote Learning Might Look Like' document on our Year 1 Remote Learning home page.

What's happening today?

Say our daily prayer and look at our visual timetable to see what jobs you have lined up for today.

Handwriting

Today in handwriting, we are continuing to practice writing the letters that belong to the 'Zigzag Monster' letter family. Today we will focus on writing the letter z.

As an extra challenge see if you can write some words beginning with the letter z. You could try zebra, zigzag and zip.

Open the link below and then click on the letter z to watch the pencil show you how to write that letter.

Phonics

You all have the link to the lessons related to the sound sets that your child is learning. Your child also needs to look at the spelling videos as part of their phonics too. These have been shared with you. Start from lesson 1 of these videos and do 1 a day. They are working retrospectively, so your child should be starting to get familiar with the sounds they are being asked to spell with. If you cannot find your link or you have forgotten which sounds your child is learning please send me a message on Dojo.

If you would like to access some fun phonics games, try the Phonics Play website from the link below.

The resources page looks like this. You can access the site using the FREE log-in Jan 21 and password home.

Reading

Visit the Oxford Owl website to access their free e-library, which has Read Write Inc Phonics books to match where your child is at in phonics, and book banded books to match your child's school reading book level. You all have the login details for our class account to this site, but if you can't remember it please send me a message on Dojo.

You can also use books from your child's own book shelf for reading together, and you can now also join Earl Shilton's digital library. Don't worry if you're not a member of Earl Shilton Library, you can now join online. Just follow the link:

Physical Activity

For our physical activity this week we are off to the Dough Disco with Mrs. Oliver and Miss White. Each day either Mrs. Oliver or Miss White will take you and your dough to the disco for a finger workout!

Today we're going to Dough Disco with Miss White! Click the link to access the video.

Literacy

Today in Literacy we are continuing our Cinderella theme and will be writing a spell for the Fairy Godmother or you to use. You need to begin by watching my lesson video. You can write up your work in the format on the sheet attached, or you can choose your own way to present it.

Click on the link below to access the video lesson.

During the lesson you will also need to come back to the webpage to click on the youtube video clip below.

Magic spell example template (you don't need to print - you can make your own).

Maths

In yesterday's Maths lesson we looked at One more and one less. If your child found it too much to complete both parts yesterday, then complete the second part today and do this lesson in the Friday afternoon finishing-off time, if you wish.

Today's lesson is Compare objects within 50.

5 Minute Mindfulness Meditation

Take a few moments today for this Mindfulness Meditation activity. We always start every afternoon with some meditation just to help us, relax, focus and turn off from the business of the day for a few minutes. Click on the link below to access the meditation.

Finishing off time / Art

If you have any work that you need to finish off, then Friday afternoon is the time we have allocated to do this.  When you've done, we have a lovely Art activity for you to do if you would like to.

Art & Design

We're going to carry on with our mini-topic on drawing with Miss Davies from Oak Academy. For this lesson you will need some A4 plain paper, a pencil, some colours and some objects to draw round (more details in the video). You can access the video lesson by clicking on the link below. Parent supervision is needed for the first part of the lesson as it asks the children to draw with their toes (and I'm sure Mrs White won't thank me for carpet cleaning bills!)

End of day story

Today, our story is the Rainbow Fish, read by Mrs Oliver.
