The classroom

Year 3 Curriculum

Take a look at the Long Term Plans to find out what we will be learning this year:

Maths

At St. Peter's we use White Rose Maths for our maths curriculum.

"Together, we’re building a whole new culture of deep understanding, confidence and competence in maths – a culture that produces strong, secure learning and real progress. No matter what their starting points, we help teachers and learners everywhere to achieve excellence."

                              R.E

This is the R.E overview for year 3. Please familiarise yourself with what we will be learning...

Talk for writing

At St. Peter's we use Talk for Writing. The Talk for Writing approach enables children to read and write independently for a variety of audiences and purposes within different subjects. A key feature is that children internalise the language structures needed to write through ‘talking the text’ as well as close reading. The approach moves from dependence towards independence with the teacher using shared and guided teaching to develop the ability in children to write creatively and powerfully.

Schools underpin their English work by establishing a core reading spine of quality fiction, poetry and non-fiction that all children experience and draw upon.

In our classroom, you will see lots of our learning on the 'washing line' and working walls.

In Year 3 we focus on the following topics:

Plants

Animals including Humans

Rocks

Forces and Magnets

Light

Important information:

  • PE- PE will take place on Monday and Friday. Please make sure your child is wearing appropriate kit.
  • Homework- Homework  will be set and sent home on Friday afternoons and consists of a maths activity, TTRS and weekly spelling worksheets (see below about using Spelling Shed too!) Plus, we would like the children to be reading to an adult for at least three times a week. We will be awarding homework dojos accordingly.
  • Reading please record what your child has read with you in your child's reading record book. We will be asking to see the records on a weekly basis.
  • Spelling lists will be sent home via Homework Books on a Friday. Games or assignments will be set on Spelling Shed and we will expect these to be completed as part of their weekly homework. We will be checking this site on a Wednesday morning on homework hand in day. Your child then has time to practise their words ready for our spelling test on the following Wednesday.
  • Maths tasks that we set for your child will be appropriate for their ability in that particular topic. The content will follow on from what your child has been learning in the classroom.
  • Homework is due in on Wednesdays. Please complete the work in the homework book, or stick in a completed sheet, and return this to class no later than Wednesday morning so that it can be marked. Your child will be rewarded with dojos for completing all elements of their homework, including the virtual platforms.

Notices:

We will ensure that each child has their own login for the platforms mentioned above.  If you have any problems, please message us through Dojo and we will try to help.
